Well. The quarter has officially ended. It’s clear from the data that I have slacked off a bit. I’m kind of OK with it. At least for today. Tomorrow I may go on a self loathing tirade about how sluggish I am being, but for today…. I am OK with not hitting the exact mark that I need to hit in order to make my annual goal.
Right on par with the biking and walking. Pretty danged close on the runs, and nowhere close on the swims. By March 31st I should have been at 25% of my annual goal in each category.
I know I’m working hard to meet my goals. I also know where I’m slacking off. Based on the numbers, you’d think that I’m slacking off on the swimming, but that actually isn’t the case. I may have set my mark too high on that, but I’ll get there. I just need to push a little harder and get an extra swim in each week here and there.
Where I feel like I’m slacking is on my runs. I have three runs a week on my workout plan, but it feels like that (plus a couple other issues) has caused my PF to flair up. It is definitely at a manageable place, but I need to make sure and take care of my foot, so my focus has been on the other aspects of my training. So, except for last night, I’m not really slacking on my running, it’s just not up to speed with where I had hoped it would be. Last night? I just plain ol’ did not wanna run. I had to do some pretty hard talking to myself to even get downstairs to do my yoga. I’m calling it a win. Didn’t want to workout. Did some version of a workout anyway. There was a time in the not to distant past where I’d have gone, “Don’t wanna workout – gonna pour a glass of wine instead.” For this reason, I’m not calling yesterday a fail.
Now that my foot is feeling better, I need to adjust my plan to where I can still meet my goals, but with as little stress on my foot as possible. I’m not sure exactly how I will accomplish that, but I have read a couple of really good articles about it on Runners World, so I feel like I have a pretty good idea of what I need to try. And isn’t that what it’s all about – trying different things until you find out what works the best for your body?
All in all, it’s been a good quarter. Foot issues aside, I feel strong and I feel like I’ve overcome some pretty big (for me) obstacles. Good quarter done. Looking forward to a GREAT quarter!
