Here, Fishy, Fishy, FISHY

20130502_074228When Mark first brought Bandit home and virtually begged me to let us keep her she was barely a pound. Teensy little thing. Pretty much from the beginning she latched onto the fish.

<<<< That one over there.

She would try to carry it around with her but the fish was nearly bigger than she was. As she got bigger and had less trouble dragging it around she would toss it in the air and then pounce on it. Just looking at it you can tell that it has been very loved!

After a time, Bandit got tired of playing with the fish by herself. She would come running down the hall with the fish in her mouth and drop it at our feet and then stare at us. Very intently. We finally caught on that she wanted us to toss it. Mark or I would toss it down the hall or across the room and she would tear off after the thing, retrieve it, and bring it back. If we were sitting on the couch she would jump up on the couch with it and drop it next to one of our laps. Then stare at us. If we didn’t respond she would push the fish closer to us or pick it up in her mouth and set it on our lap. Over and over and over again we played fetch with the cat! She loved it.

Lately, if I get up in the middle of the night I’ve been stepping on the fish because it is mysteriously finding its way into my bedroom every night. Bandit sleeps with me so I have assumed that she dumps it on the floor before she climbs in bed with me.

And then this morning happened. My alarm went off and I reached over and hit the snooze button. A fairly automatic reaction that I can do without really being awake. But something was different this morning. In my grog it took me a moment to figure out what it was.

The fish was in the crick of my neck!! The ratty, old, cat-drooled-upon fish had been shoved into the crick of my neck. SEXAY!!
